Collection of Personal Data

If you are simply browsing our site, we do not collect any personal information about you.

If you choose to engage with us further (for example: signing up for our newsletter, buying products or services from us, or taking part in our research), then we will collect the minimum amount of personal data necessary to achieve these goals.

Data Collection – Purposes and Lawful Basis

We collect data for the following purposes:

  • To allow visitors to sign up for our newsletter.
  • To enable business customers to purchase our products and services.
  • To enable individuals to log in to our research portal.

We rely on the lawful basis of consent to process your data. We will never collect your data without explicitly asking you for your permission. We will always explain why we are collecting specific data, what it will be used for, and how long it will be retained.

Data Retention

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we will retain your email address to enable this service for as long as our newsletter remains active. You can unsubscribe at any time. We will not retain your email address for any other purposes if you unsubscribe.

Details relating to suppliers and business customers (for example, on invoices) will be retained for as long as we are legally required to maintain the records to which they relate. In the UK this is usually for a minimum of 6 years, and may be longer.

Research participants can close their account, and delete their email address, at any time. However, as research data is stored anonymously and in aggregate, it is not possible to delete individuals’ contributions to specific research projects after these have been submitted.

For users that register on our website, such as guest authors, we also store the personal information they choose to provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information. This information will be retained as long as the user’s account is active.

Your Rights Regarding Your Data

You can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

To make any such request, you can contact Complexical at dpo@complexical.com.

If you believe we are failing to meet any of our legal duties under GDPR, you can make a complaint to the Information Commissioner’s Office in the UK. Information on how to complain can be found on their website: https://ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint/
